How to find us

Stavros is the seat of the municipality of Volvi in the east of the Thessaloniki
regional unit. The distance to the city of Thessaloniki is
80km and 90km from its airport.Mount Athos is
very close by, as well as the towns of
Kavala,Amphipolis,Ouranoupoli
and the Ammouliani island.It is the
perfect destination for short or longer periods of vacation or
even a one-day trip.Stavros is easily accessible by car
following the Egnatia Motorway Thessaloniki-Kavala or by bus
taking one of the daily routes from and to Thessaloniki or
Serres.

Cuisine

Delicious food is not unknown to the people of Stavros,

which is translated to alot of culinary options.In the local restaurants

you can find many tasty and local dishes to savour. Do not miss the

SIGHTS

Plane forest:

Located in a unique site right next to the sea,these supercentenarian trees
offer some time for relaxation and a cool breeze during the scorching summer months.

Ancient Stageir:

The birthplace of the ancient philosopher Aristotle and also the
educator of Alexander the Great.Located southeast of the Chalkidiki peninsula,it was
founded by Ionian settlers from Andros around 655 BC and to this day is being visited
by people from all over the world.

Aristotle Grove:

At the historic village of Stageira,in an altitude of 500m.,the grove
of Aristotle lies awake.Take a stroll inside where you can find many experimental
instruments like a compass,the sundial and check the amazing view of Ierisso’s Bay.

Macedonian Tempe or Rentina Gorge:

The Rentina Gorge,also known as the
Macedonian Tempe, is located between Mount Cholomon and the Kerdylia
mountains.It is a valley starting west from the Rentina village,near the Lake of
Volvi,ending near the Strymonikos Bay.It is also a very important natural reserve and
a station for migrating birds and birds of prey.On a hill of the gorge stands the castle
of Rentina,whereas in its entrance you can find the post-Byzantine Church of Saint
Marina.

Church of Saint Marina:

This post-Byzantine era church is located in the 75km of the
old national route of Thessaloniki-Kavala,is only a few kilometers away from
Stavros.It was built in the mid-18 century and remains an important attraction of
the area.

Lake Volvi:

This lake is the second biggest in Greece after Lake Trihonida and
together with Koroneia ,which is located 11,5km away from Lake Volvi,they consist
an important wetland of international importance under the name “Lakes of Koroneia-
Volvi".Moreover,at the settlement of Apollonia functions the Koroneia-Volvi
Wetland Information Center.This center exhibits an enviromental report on the lakes
and the types of fauna hosted there accompanied by info material and 30 minute
walks.

Alistratis Cave:

This cave has been described as one of the most beautiful cave not
only in Greece but in Europe also.The many stalagmite and stalactite adornments
form an incredible colour palette worth visiting.

Aggitis River:

Cave:It is one of the most crucial touristic attractions in Eastern
Macedonia.It has one special feature:It is the largest river cave in the world.It is
located approximately 25km away in the northwest of the town of Drama,in the
municipality of Prosotsani,next to the village Piges.It is also visitable in a length of
500m,while its total length is more than 21 km..

Amphipolis Archaelogical Museum:

The new museum finished construction in
1995.Its exhibits have been collected from around the area showcasing a history
dating back to the prehistoric years up until the Byzantine era.
